Brendon gained success in 1974, at the age of 19, after beating 500 other tapes submitted to Jonathan King to win a record deal with his label, U.K. Records. Speaking of the first encounter with Brendon, King states: “Brendon uses his guitar like a rhythm section. His singing is fairly mature, but the lyrics and melody are teenage.” Through his record deal, Brendon released his debut folk-rock album simply “Brendon” that included a Billboard Top Single Pick “Make Me A Dollar Make Me A Dime”. He later released the disco hit “Gimme Some” and “Rock Me” with Magnet Records which saw him feature on Top of the Pops on a number of occasions.
