Top 5 London Music Venues

Over the years, I’ve been to hundreds of gigs, and I’ve had the chance of going to some really cool live music venues as a result. So here’s a list of some of my favourite venues that I’ve been to.

The Jazz Cafe — Camden

The Jazz Cafe is an iconic London venue. It hosts artists from a wide variety of genres, not limited to Samba, Soul, Jazz, Reggae and so much more! Its hosted talent such as Roy Ayers, Amy Winehouse, & Ben E. King. I’ve lost count of the amount of gigs I’ve been to at this venue — it’s almost like a second home. They host tribute nights, gigs and dance nights such as SoulCity. Not to mention, there’s a restaurant too, so you can enjoy some grub whilst looking over the talent performing.

KOKO — Camden

Another great venue, KOKO is located in the heart of Camden Town, a go-to venue for any gig lover. Once a theatre, the 1410 capacity, four floor building with its beautiful architecture, & statues has hosted legends like The Rolling Stones & Prince. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing the likes of Kehlani, Masego & talented trio Moonchild perform at this venue. It’s currently closed for refurbishment until spring 2020, so we can all look forward to a revamped KOKO once it reopens.

Royal Albert Hall — Kensington

A historically significant venue, I’ve only visited this venue once but it was an amazing experience! It was to see one of my favourite groups, Earth, Wind & Fire. The energy in the room was out of this world. The spherical nature of the venue, makes the experience intimate despite it being a 5000 capacity venue, not to mention, the acoustics are 10/10.

The Old Queens Head — Angel Islington

This pub is probably one of the best that I’ve been to. They have great food and a great vibe downstairs. However, upstairs is where the party really happens. They host games nights, live PAs & dance themed nights e.g. 70s, 80s, 90s. Each time I’ve gone, I’ve had a wicked time. So if you’re looking for a good night out, I’d 100% recommend this venue.

Eventim (Hammersmith) Apollo — Hammersmith

Whether it’s a comedy night, or a concert, the Eventim Apollo is a great venue. Again, the acoustics at this venue are really good and the options for standing or seating tickets mean that you can choose the type of experience that you want. For example, I went to see James Bay perform here. I wish that I’d bought a standing tickets rather than seated because I would’ve had a more immersive experience with the crowd below.
